About

Michele Tinker is owner and teacher at Bright-house Learning Center. She has 33 years teaching experience in public school, private school, and homeschool in multi-subjects at all grade levels, pre-K to adult. She currently teaches homeschool classes to small groups of students from the Northshore community.  She enjoys travel, reading, writing, meeting new people, animals, and her family. She is married, has four grown children and lives in Covington, LA.

Here are a few highlights from her experience:

Developed and taught over 100 fourth grade students in her writing research program to bring student skills up to required state standards. Received the James Moffett Award for her writing project that was implemented with 2nd and 4th grade students. NCTE’s (National Council of Teacher's of English) Conference on English Education, in conjunction with the National Writing Project, offers this grant to support teacher research projects that further the spirit and scholarship of James Moffett. Shared research findings and coordinated teaching with other staff. Presented findings with staff, PTA, and school-wide parent classes as well as on educational brain research about memory, learning and applications for the classroom. Also presented at the 2004 NCTE CEE that was held in San Francisco, CA.

Taught 6th grade English and Social Studies. Developed and taught 146 sixth grade students cultural project. Taught ESL students from India who spoke Punjabi, instruction in English, reading, vocabulary, and writing for University of California at Davis Master’s research project. Shared research findings and coordinated teaching with ESL staff. Attended extensive training on Cultural and Poverty Diversity and became a district team trainer for Staff Development.

American Association of Christian Counselors & James Dobson Focus on the Family: Received Advanced Life Coach Credential-Child Development and Parenting emphasis, 2016.

 

Presented Mother-Daughter Conferences for Church/Community. Taught about unique mother-daughter relationships, friendships, boundaries, communication, and conflict-resolution with engaging, proactive approach. 

 

Author & speaker of Adventurer Series books and classes for teenage boys. Co-author & speaker of Be A Queen Series books and classes for teenage girls.

Presented Parenting Leadership Classes ("GPS") for Church/Community. Facilitated parent leaders and offered classes with discussion for parents of teens on topics such as social media, friends, family, curfew, money, sex, substance abuse, grace and forgiveness. 

Presented for school district staff training and principal training on current educational brain research for memory and learning and their applications for the classroom. Received trainer's certificate on Neuroscience/Brain Matters training by Pat Wolfe, PhD.
