Classes meet Monday through Thursday each week. We leave Fridays open for parents to provide homeschool instruction, P.E. class, enrichment classes, and homework time. We generally follow the STPSB school-year calendar (homeschool requires 180 school days) with some adjustments to accommodate a few extra days. If STPSB cancels school due to severe weather, we do too.
Location: We have a beautiful home-like school setting, located in the Covington/Mandeville area. When you schedule an appointment for our first meeting, we can set up a tour!
Instruction begins at 8:30, but arrival is between 8:15-8:30 so that students may come inside, arrange books and materials, put lunch in the refrigerator, and/or use the restroom before starting class at 8:30 am. Classes are finished and students are ready for pick-up each day at 1:30 pm.
Breaks: Students have several breaks during the day for snacks, water, and restroom use in addition to lunch. In this home-like environment, students are free to use the restroom as needed.
Typing: Two-handed, QWERTY is taught as an extension of writing so that Microsoft editing, revising, and "Track Changes" tools can be utilized during essay instruction.
Health: 6th and 7th graders participate in a health unit study that includes: nutrition, exercise, and wellness. With parent permission, 8th graders participate in a health unit study that includes the above plus Family Life (FL). Units are presented from a Christian perspective. More information is made available prior to the start of the FL unit in October.
